WICKER PARK — Popular BYOB seafood joint The Angry Crab opened its Wicker Park outpost to appreciative crowds on Saturday.

"We love it," said Leah Haskin, who was wearing a bib along with her 1-year-old son.

Haskin, her husband, and son were working their way through piles of headless shrimp, king crabs and lobster claws.

While the Haskin family lives a short walk from The Angry Crab, April Bullock and Michael West had traveled from suburban Oak Brook.

"It's delicious," said Bullock.

The 105-seat restaurant at 1308 N. Milwaukee Ave. is the second location for the Rogers Park eatery, which opened in early 2015 and serves Louisiana-style seafood by the pound, in plastic bags.

There is a roll of paper towels at each table; a sink in the back of the restaurant is just for hand washing.

Diners are given plastic bibs emblazoned with The Angry Crab's logo. There are no plates.

Shortly before the dinner rush on Saturday, Mario Argueta, a server, said, "the reception has been great."

"At all the tables people are really cheering. It's been amazing feedback," Argueta said.

Alvin Kang, the restaurant's co-owner, said that the most ordered items on Saturday were headless shrimp, King Crab and chargrilled oysters, the latter a new item just for Wicker Park.

All of the seafood is sold in one-pound quantities only.

Diners can select from four levels of spicy heat, from calm to dangerous, and there are three ways to season the seafood: lemon pepper, garlic butter, angry Cajun and "maniac," a combination of all three.

Kang said about 20 workers were hired to staff the new restaurant, which also serves appetizers like calamari and French fries, sandwiches and fried fish baskets.
