ROGERS PARK — A century-old theater in Rogers Park has gotten a face-lift — and an Xbox system.

The New 400 Theaters, 6746 N. Sheridan Road, has been updated with new artwork from a local artist, new chairs and new floors, according to a news release from the theater.

It also added an Xbox gaming system so customers can play video games on movie theater-size screens.

The theater, which was built in 1912, has undergone several renovations since it reopened under new management in 2009, New 400 Theaters said.

“The New 400 is a cornerstone to the community,” said Tony Fox, owner of the New 400 Theaters. “Our goal with the renovations is to improve the look and feel of the theater while maintaining its historic charm. It’s about making the guest experience the best it can possibly be for all of our customers, neighbors and friends.”

That renovated theater includes a black-light mural in the lobby and a street-art painting dedicated to the neighborhood proclaiming, “We are Rogers Park.” Both pieces were painted by local artist Ripson Berlin.

Next, the theater is planning to create a lounge area and private event area.

"Despite its changes over the years, many original architectural details remain to preserve the space's original character," the theater said.
