Halloween Candy Gets Political: Alderman Urges Folks To Buy Union-Made

IRVING PARK — No need to don a Hillary or Trump mask to make a political statement this Halloween.

Say it with candy.

"Please buy union-made," Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th) tweeted to his followers.

Sweets made in union shops include Kit Kat, Baby Ruth and Nestle Crunch, along with more obscure brands like Abba-Zaba. While normally we'd tell people to avoid Laffy Taffy like the plague, it's also on the union-approved list.

What didn't make the union cut? Snickers, which is unfortunate, because according to a poll by Influenster, the chocolate/peanut/caramel combo is the candy of choice in Illinois.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, which also flunked the union test, was the top vote-getter overall in the poll. Luckily, there's a union-made substitute: the Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cup
