COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Bucktown man was held without bail Friday after prosecutors said he robbed a woman at knifepoint in Uptown.

Darnell Murphy, 52, is accused of holding a two-inch blade to a 22-year-old woman's throat as he stole her Samsung cellphone about 12:05 a.m. Thursday in the 4700 block of North Winthrop Avenue, court records show.

Chicago Police officers on patrol in the area saw the attack and tried to arrest Murphy, according to an arrest report. Murphy attempted to disarm one of the officers, police said, was ultimately taken into custody.

Murphy, of the 1600 block of West Le Moyne Street, is charged with armed robbery, unlawful restraint, trying to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Friday denied Murphy bail.
