Watch 3-Legged Dog Reunited With Police Officer Who Saved Him [Video]

CHICAGO — A dog that was rescued by a police officer after the animal was found shot was reunited Tuesday with the police officer who helped save his life.

The Chicago Police Department shared a video of the reunion between the dog, named Jack, and Officer Tammy Block, who found him Oct. 11 at 100th Street and Lafayette Avenue in Roseland. Jack is recovering after doctors amputated one of his legs to save him.

"There was a call of a dog that was shot and injured laying on the side of the road, so I went over there. I saw poor Jack laying there bleeding and shot pretty bad," said Block.

The dog had been hit in front left leg and the impact from the bullet "imploded" his major leg bone, according to Trio Animal Foundation, a group that helps care for animals.

Block, with the help of some neighbors, wrapped the dog in a blanket and placed him in the back of her squad car.

Jack isn't the first dog Block has rescued. She said she's rescued more dogs than "I would like to admit to." Trio adopted another pup she rehabilitated.

Jack can be seen playing with Block in the video below:

On Tuesday, Jack was able to run a bit and play with a toy.

The Trio group said when he was discovered, his "front left leg was limp like a noodle and kept bending the wrong way."

Pictures show that Jack's leg was put in a cast, but doctors ruled that his leg needed to be amputated, the group said.

The surgery was a success, though the procedure was "extremely difficult" due to Jack being a muscular dog, the group said.

Jack's medical bills exceed $5,000.
