CHICAGO — Chicago Police released footage of the brutal attack on an officer who did not want to shoot her attacker out of fear of public scrutiny.

"A couple of months ago, you could have shot him," a person says before chuckling at the 10:38 mark in the body camera footage.

On Oct. 5, an officer and her partner were dispatched to a car crash near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Cicero Avenue. The officers went up to help, but a man, who had crashed his car into a building, became "combative" and attacked an officer, police said.

Police released video of the attack recorded on a squad car's dash cam and an officer's body camera.

In the dash cam footage, which starts around the 36 minute mark here, the man punched her and "repeatedly smashed her face into the pavement" until she was knocked out, police said. He pulled out some of her hair, police said.

Another officer used Mace and a stun gun on the man and eventually placed him into custody, police said. Police suspect the man, 28-year-old Parta Huff, was high on PCP at the time of the attack.

In the body camera footage, an officer can be seen arriving at the scene and jumping on the attacker, who is struggling with the officer on the ground.

"The Taser is not working!" an officer can be heard yelling. "He's got her hair!"

The female officer was hospitalized with a severe concussion, neck injury, chipped bones in her wrist and shoulder, and multiple lacerations, officials said.

Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said following the attack that the officer thought she was going to die and though she should have shot the man, she did not because she was worried about scrutiny.

At the time of the attack, Huff was free on $10,000 bail for a pending aggravated DUI case that also includes charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

According to Assistant State's Attorney office, Huff has been arrested four times for resisting police — all in connection to traffic stops.
