3 Officers Injured After Man In Car Crash Struggles With Them, Police Say

By Kelly Bauer | October 5, 2016 4:14pm

CHICAGO — Three officers were injured while trying to help people who had been involved in a car crash, police said.

About 10 a.m., officers were on patrol when they came across a car crash near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Cicero Avenue, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The officers went up to help, but a man who had been involved in the crash became "combative" and hit an officer, Tannehill said.

Two other officers were injured while trying to place the man into custody, Tannehill said.

The three officers were taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where one of them was in serious condition and two were in good condition, Tannehill said. The man who had been in the crash was taken to Loretto Hospital, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," Tannehill said.

The investigation was ongoing.
