Downtown, South Lakefront Police Districts Get More Officers

By Sam Cholke | October 12, 2016 5:10am | Updated on October 14, 2016 11:36am

BRONZEVILLE — Police districts Downtown and on the south lakefront are getting more officers.

The Central and Wentworth districts are both getting six more officers each, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for the Police Department, said the officers’ assignments will be at the discretion of the commanders in both districts, but will primarily be on patrol.

He said the officers are either probationary officers new to the force or are being transferred from other districts, though he declined to say where they were transferred from.

Guglielmi said the changes are in reaction to transfer and attrition-related vacancies.

The officers are not part of an announced plan to add 970 officers to the force.
