CHICAGO — For anyone who still hasn't been to one of the city's many museums, this week will be a good time to start.
The second annual Chicago Museum Week begins Thursday, offering a suite of discounts, special programs and activities at museums all over the city.
Organized by Museums in the Park, the 11-day promotional period will touch landmark mainstays like the Art Institute of Chicago and the Shedd Aquarium, as well as smaller sites like the Chicago History Museum and the Swedish American Museum.
The 1½-week event will include "discounts on general admission and memberships, extended hours, free tours, new exhibits, educational programs and giveaways," according to a release. Illinois residents can get up to 25 percent off admission at some museums.

Programs include:
• An exhibit on tattoos at The Field Museum of Natural History
• An "Afro-Caribbean visual arts and cultural display" at the DuSable Museum of African American History
• Free "art-making activities for all ages" at The Art Institute of Chicago
• A career fair for students, and an "adults-only evening event," at the Museum of Science and Industry
Chicago Museums Week runs through Oct. 23.
