Remember These Super Scary Chicago TV Guide Ads? Watch This Video

CHICAGO — These old-school TV Guide Chicago ads are super scary.

Pete Kastanes compiled dozens of old-school printed advertisements found in TV Guides in Chicago and created a YouTube video with Experiment in Terror by Henry Mancini as background music.

Movies like "Curse of the Werewolf" and "Night of the Living Dead," and TV shows that include a special Halloween-themed "Charlie Brown" are featured in the ad-filled video.

"I did the video because when I growing up I used to watch Creature Features on Channel 9 ... and it was so hypnotic and very memorable," said Kastanes, 53. "I was so scared from watching those movies as a kid. I still feel a little uneasy about those to this day."

Kastanes, a Bogan High School graduate, is also administrator of the Facebook page "Chicago Extinct Businesses." The site, which has nearly 25,000 followers, is a reminder of the countless companies that graced the city — from the Northwest Side's Turn Style Family Center to Monarch Dry Cleaners on the South and Southwest Sides. It's one is one of 20-plus pages Kastanes oversees. He began using Facebook as a memory trove in 2012.
