CHICAGO — A third person has died in the aftermath of an Aug. 27 house fire that police suspect was an act of arson, officials said.

Around 1:30 a.m. that day, officers were called to a house that was "engulfed in flames" in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A man was found outside with severe burns and brought to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Trainor said.

That man, identified as 58-year-old Danny Darling, was pronounced dead on Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Two people were found dead inside the home, Trainor said.

Those people were identified as 55-year-old Doris Anderson and 61-year-old Tommie Darling, of the same address, officials said.

A death investigation unearthed evidence that the fire was intentionally set, Trainor said. A witness reported seeing "something come through the side window" of the house before it went up in flames.

Detectives are still investigating the incident, Trainor said, and no one is in custody.
