RAVENSWOOD — Empirical Brewery is mourning the loss of one of its beloved employees, Gozer the cat.

Gozer, along with Venkman, Ray and Egon, became part of the Empirical family in late 2014, adopted to guard the brewery's grain.

The brewery's feral cat colony gained its own fan following and became a poster child of sorts for Tree House Humane Society's Cats at Work program, in which feral felines are deployed to control an area's rat population.

Empirical shared the news about Gozer via social media and the brewery's website, announcing that the cat had died of complications from feline leukemia virus.

"We are just grateful that we had the time we did with Gozer," the brewery posted.

"She was a resilient, tough, wonderful kitten right to the end. Her Empirical family was with her when she passed, and she felt no pain."

Though skittish around people, Empirical's cats are sociable enough online. Follow their ongoing adorable antics on Twitter.
