LINCOLN PARK — Get ready for the new-and-improved Molly's Cupcakes.
The playful flagship bakery, 2536 N. Clark St., is closed this week as it takes over the space next door.
The team is aiming to reopen Friday and debut the expanded bakery — complete with a new kitchen, added seating (the bakery is known for its swing-style seating), plus re-finished floors and updated decor, an employee said in an email.
The expansion will also allow Molly's to begin taking corporate and wholesale orders.
Molly's is named after the owner's third-grade teacher who would make cupcakes for her students' birthdays.
Since opening in 2007, the bakery has become a neighborhood favorite — both for its tasty sweet treats and its philanthropy. Molly's, which now has locations in River North, New York City and Iowa City, donates a portion of its profits to local schools.
In addition to inventive cupcakes, Molly's sells a variety of other homemade baked goods like brownies, pies and cookies.
The bakery will be throwing a grand reopening party, but the time and date has yet to be determined.
