WRIGLEY FIELD — The 4 Star Restaurant Group announced its plans to open a Smoke Daddy barbecue restaurant in the Hotel Zachary across from Wrigley Field, joining Big Star in the posh complex.

The seven-story Hotel Zachary is expected to open in early 2018 at the northwest corner of Clark and Addison.

Now part of the newly christened Park At Wrigley Field, the hotel will house restaurants like Big Star plus a Wintrust Bank branch and a McDonald's to fill the 238,000-square-foot building at 3630 N. Clark St.

"We feel it's a natural fit to partner with Hickory Street Capital to bring our popular barbecue concept Smoke Daddy to Hotel Zachary," said 4 Star co-founder Derek Rettel. "We're thrilled to be part of this new community gathering place that taps the distinctive character of Wrigleyville."

The new 300-seat Smoke Daddy with be situated on the ground and second levels with a 75-seat terrace facing Clark Street. Like its flagship location, the new Smoke Daddy will also have live music every day.

Smoke Daddy first opened in 1994 in Wicker Park and has been featured on several Food Network shows. Known for its smoked meats and live music, the barbecue restaurant draws heavily from Kansas City barbecue, with its vinegar-based, hint-of-celery-seed sauce.

Last week, One Off Hospitality Group confirmed Big Star would open in Hotel Zachary, a highly anticipated expansion for the popular Wicker Park taco destination.

Names of the other specific restaurants that will be at the hotel haven't been announced. With the Zachary Hotel, 4 Star Restaurant Group will have five Lakeview locations, including Crosby's Kitchen, Tuco and Blondie, Ella Elli and Frasca.

Meanwhile, the Cubs will head into the third year of major renovations at Wrigley Field after the postseason. While bleachers, the underground clubhouse, bathroom expansions and marquee restoration are complete, work remains for the plaza and office building, which should be complete early next year. The 1914 Club is set to open in 2018.

Last year, the Cubs' postseason games delayed construction for a month. Despite the hold-up, the club said the five-year renovation plans remain on schedule.

The Hotel Zachary/plaza is being developed by an entity controlled by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the hotel development project.
