HYDE PARK — Hyde Park author Rosellen Brown will receive the Fuller Award from the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame on Thursday.

Brown has written five novels, including “Before and After,” which was made into a film of the same name in 1996 starring Meryl Streep and Liam Neeson, three collections of poetry and a collection of short stories.

The Fuller Award recognizes a lifetime of achievement by a Chicago author and Brown is the fourth to be honored.

Brown’s most recent book, “Half a Heart,” is about a mother and daughter trying to rebuild their relationship amidst class and racial tensions, and was praised by the Chicago Tribune as one of the best books of 2000.

Brown will be recognized at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chicago Poetry Foundation, 61 W. Superior St.

She has taught in the writing program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for the past 18 years.
