LINCOLN PARK — A 27-year-old woman was knocked to the ground, kicked and robbed by two men on a residential block in Lincoln Park Tuesday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., the woman was walking west in the 1300 block of West Wrightwood Avenue when two men came behind her and snatched her bag, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

During the woman's struggle, one of the men grabbed her phone. Then both men knocked her to the ground and started kicking her, Estrada said.

A nearby pedestrian saw the attack and started yelling, prompting the men to run away, Estrada said.

The woman was taken in good condition to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she was treated for cuts above her left eyebrow and general soreness, Estrada said.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.

The blog Crime in Wrigleyville + Boystown was first to report the crime.

Earlier this month, 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith said she intends to "firmly press" for more police manpower in Lincoln Park as part of this year's budget negotiations, citing a "disturbing uptick in crime."
