PORTAGE PARK — A 57-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and stomach Wednesday night in Portage Park, police said.

The stabbing occurred at 10:30 p.m. during a "domestic-related incident" at a home in the 5300 block of West Culyer Avenue, about two blocks from Portage Park's namesake park, a statement from the Chicago Police Department said.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

A 53-year-old man is in custody and charges are pending against him in connection with the incident, police said.

The victim, whom police did not identify, had a "verbal altercation" with a man, who stabbed him, police said.

The stabbing is the second violent crime in the same block in as many weeks.

A 19-year-old man was shot in his left arm Sept. 16, police said.
