DOWNTOWN — Lake Shore Drive will face major closures this weekend and next week.
The closures, which will shut down all lanes going northbound and southbound on Lake Shore Drive near McCormick Place at different times, are needed for construction of the interchange between Lake Shore Drive and the Stevenson Expressway, according to an Illinois Department of Transportation news release.

Detours will be available, but drivers should expect delays, according to IDOT.
• Northbound Lake Shore Drive: The northbound drive between 39th Street and McCormick Place will be closed 8 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday. A detour will take drivers off Lake Shore Drive onto 39th Street, then onto State Street north to the inbound Stevenson Expressway, and back to northbound Lakeshore Drive.
• Northbound Lake Shore Drive to outbound Stevenson ramp: The ramp will also be closed 8 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.
• Southbound Lake Shore Drive: Southbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed between 31st Street and 39th Street 8 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.
Also, the southbound drive's left lane will be closed at 10 p.m. Sunday, and another lane will close at 11 p.m. At midnight, all of the lanes will be closed until 5 a.m. All of the lanes will then be closed nightly until Wednesday.
• Inbound Stevenson to southbound Lake Shore Drive ramp: The ramp will be closed 1-6 a.m. Saturday.
