CHICAGO — Police have charged a man they say attacked a woman as she jogged near Merchandise Mart on Sept. 10.

At 5:49 a.m., the woman was jogging in the 200 block of West Kinzie Street when Carl Freeman came up from behind, grabbed her by her throat and threw her down, according to a Chicago Police news release. The two struggled until witnesses called out and Freeman ran away, police said.

Freeman, 34, of the 3200 block of South Halsted, was arrested and has been charged with aggravated battery, police said.

Freeman's bond was set at $500,000 during a Friday hearing, and he's due back in court Thursday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
