LINCOLN SQUARE — Residents are being reminded to lock their windows and doors following a pair of home break-ins in the area around Winnemac Park.

Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th) alerted constituents of the thefts via email.

The burglaries occurred on Sept. 7 and Sept. 9. In the first incident, the thief entered the home in the overnight hours through a side door. In the second incident, the thief entered during the daytime through an unlocked window, according to O'Connor.

The homeowner involved in the Sept. 9 burglary also posted the incident to EveryBlock, noting that a rear window, approximately 10 feet off the ground, had been left open higher than the safety locks.

"The time that I was gone with kids and my husband arrived home was less than [a half] hour," she posted, pegging the incident at approximately 12:30 p.m.

There have also been multiple reports of automobile break-ins in the neighborhood, the alderman added.

"I have spoken with the police commander regarding the need for increased police presence in the area," O'Connor said.

The alderman urged residents "to be vigilant about locking doors and windows" and encouraged people to report suspicious activity to 9-1-1.
