LINCOLN PARK — Robbers targeted women in two separate muggings this week, one in Lincoln Park and one in Lakeview.

In the first stickup, a 29-year-old woman was walking in the 1100 block of West George Street at around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when a robber came up to her, took out a handgun and demanded her purse, police said.

The woman refused to hand it over at first, but ended up complying, which sent the robber fleeing into a waiting dark-colored sedan, police said. The car drove off in an unknown direction.

The woman was not hurt or injured, and her phone was recovered by police not far from the scene, according to police.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, between 25 and 30 years of age, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, between 155 and 170 pounds, with short black hair and wearing a blue and white checkered shirt.

About an hour later, a robber approached a 61-year-old woman in a residential driveway in the 400 block of West Roslyn Place, police said.

When the victim started screaming for help, the robber ran away without any of her belongings and fled in a dark-colored SUV that was parked down the block, police said.

The SUV fled westbound on Roslyn Place and then southbound on Clark Street, police said.

Police declined to say whether it was the woman's driveway. But the Crime in Boystown + Wrigleyville blog, which was first to report the crimes, said the woman was on her porch when she was robbed.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, between 28 and 32 years of age, between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11, between 150 and 170 pounds, wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.

In both incidents, no one is in custody and detectives are investigating.
