CHICAGO — It's not often one of the most venerated magazines in the world suggests you head to Chicago for a breakfast sandwich.

But in this case, the sandwich must just be that good.

In a guide to where people should travel in the United States this fall, National Geographic magazine recommended people head to Chicago to get a Royale breakfast sandwich at Lula Cafe, 2537 N. Kedzie Ave.

Jason Hammel, owner and chef, said Lula has been making the sandwich for more than 12 years, changing the ingredients often. They're currently serving the brunch-only sandwich with heirloom tomatoes and speck ham.

"It's never the same, that's one thing. We change it up seasonally," Hammel said. "I'm always happy when we're recognized. We kind of do our own thing and it's great when people pay attention ... ."

National Geographic also suggested people visit the Lincoln Park Zoo, grab a slice of Pequods Pizza and celebrate museum week while in the city.
