LINCOLN PARK — Blink and you might miss the progress at the Children's Memorial Hospital demolition site.
After just a few months of demolition, construction crews have already torn down a huge section of the hospital, creating an unobstructed view of Orchard Street from Lincoln Avenue.
The whole six-acre site at Lincoln Avenue, Halsted Street and Fullerton Avenue — minus a couple of historically significant buildings — should be completely razed in November, according to the developers.
Work appears to be on schedule, according to a construction timeline presented to neighbors. Crews are more than halfway done, with about 2½ more phases to go.
Construction will begin in December and last about 2½ years.
The $350 million redevelopment project includes apartment buildings with 540 units, about 160,000 square feet of retail and up to 60 condominiums, as well as a senior housing complex.
One of the developers behind the project, Dan McCaffery with McCaffery Interests, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
