LINCOLN PARK — After 17 years in the heart of Lincoln Park, Art & Science salon is packing up and moving to a much bigger space in the booming West Loop.

The hair salon is gearing up to move out of its longtime home at 1971 N. Halsted St. by Sept. 10, according to the owners.

Soon after that, the salon will move into a much bigger, two-story building at 1144 W. Randolph St. — complete with a full training academy spanning the second floor. The official opening date is Sept. 21.

Co-owner Paul Wilson said while his team will miss Lincoln Park, moving to the West Loop, which is becoming trendier by the minute, was too enticing to pass up.

"It's a cooler place with more energy," Wilson said of the West Loop. "Everyone is excited. Customers feel like we aren't just hanging out in a neighborhood that's had its moment."

Wilson said moving was a natural choice because he and his business partner, David Raccuglia, were looking to expand and the West Loop location offers double the square footage.

"We knew we needed to grow. We looked at spaces in Lincoln Park but none of them felt like the right one," he said.

Since it opened in 1999, Art & Science has become a neighborhood staple for both women's and men's haircuts.

Wilson said women's boutique Via Strozzi will be taking over the first floor of the Lincoln Park location in the coming weeks. The boutique is currently located at 1154 W. Armitage Ave. The second floor will become an apartment, he said.

Art & Science also runs outposts in Evanston, 1629 Orrington Ave.; Wicker Park, 1554 N. Milwaukee Ave.; and Logan Square, 2569 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Throughout the transition, the salon's phone number will remain the same: (312) 787-4247.
