IRVING PARK — Police are warning Irving Park residents of an attempted child luring that occurred Monday night.

According to a community alert, at approximately 7:10 p.m., an 8-year-old boy was hanging out in front of his home in the 3600 block of North Whipple Street when a man parked his white minivan along the curb and asked the youngster, "Do you want some candy?"

After repeatedly responding "No," the frightened boy ran to a friend's house and the man drove away.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years old, with curly blond hair on the top of his head and dark hair on the sides. The white minivan had a blue stripe along the doors.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200.
