CHICAGO — Illinois State Police charged a man who pulled a gun on two officers and was shot during a traffic stop, officials said Monday.

Jonathan McIntosh, 25, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault to a police officer and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

At 8:30 p.m. Thursday, ISP troopers were conducting a traffic stop in the 7700 block of South Vincennes Avenue when they were flagged down by the driver of a taxi cab, police said.

The taxi cab driver told the troopers that the two passengers in his backseat were refusing to pay him for their fare. While speaking with them, troopers saw what appeared to be a gun in one of the suspect’s pockets. McIntosh did not listen to any of the trooper’s commands and then pulled out a gun from his pocket, police said.

McIntosh was ordered numerous times to drop the gun. One of the troopers fired two shots. McIntosh, who was holding the gun, was shot twice in the lower torso. The second suspect received an injury to his toe from one of the shots fired, police said.

McIntosh is being held on a $450,000 bond and remains in police custody at Stroger Hospital, where his condition wasn't known, but he was listed as stable, police said.

One of the suspects, a 23-year-old man, was released from the hospital after the incident and does not face any charges, police said.

The incident remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time, police said.
