OLD TOWN — Chicago women are encouraged to bare it all Sunday — but there is a risk involved.
This year's installment of GoTopless Day will kick off at 1 p.m. at North Avenue beach.
Held in cities across the country, GoTopless Day was designed to promote women's rights.
But since going topless isn't legal in Chicago, women who participate may get fined or arrested.
Last year, the city dismissed a lawsuit over the right to go topless in Chicago that was filed on behalf of GoTopless Day supporter Sonoko Tagami.
The city argued that "female breasts are considered erogenous in a way that male breasts are not," according to the Tribune.
Women are asked to wear an "opaque covering" on their nipples at the event.
