CHICAGO — Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen plans to greet fans and shoppers at a Kmart in suburban Des Plaines Saturday to celebrate that store's "grand reopening."
Pippen, a 6-time world champ who was named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players, will be at the Kmart from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. He'll pose for photos that can be purchased and sign autographs, including on basketballs and other items brought in by fans, a Kmart spokeswoman said.
The store is at 1145 E. Oakton St. in Des Plaines.
In addition to the chance to meet Pippen, 50, the event will offer "bluelight savings and free prize giveaways," including a washer and dryer, a lawn mower, trampoline and diamond stud earrings.
As of right now, the Des Plaines Kmart is the only store reopening where Pippen will be appearing, the spokeswoman said.
Known for its home goods, apparel and other items, the struggling discount department store recently closed many stores throughout the country, including a Kmart at 1360 N. Ashland Ave. in Wicker Park.
