River North Purse Thieves Smash Into Parking Meter Pay Box

RIVER NORTH — Two purse thieves took off with several handbags from a River North store Monday morning before crashing into a parking meter pay box nearby, according to police and NBC5.

Police chased after the suspects at 10:39 a.m. after seeing them snatch purses from a store in the first block of West Grand Avenue, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The thieves didn't make it far, crashing into a parking meter pay box shortly after, NBC5 reports:

Police did not disclose the value of the purses or which store they were taken from. Charges were still pending Monday afternoon.

The ripoff was the latest in a rash of purse thefts fro Downtown stores. Two men took thousands of dollars worth of handbags earlier this month from the Mag Mile Chanel store, 935 N. Michigan Ave.
