MAGNIFICENT MILE — Several luxury handbags were swiped from the Mag Mile Chanel store Wednesday, police said, the latest theft in a rash of high-end shoplifting this summer.

Two men entered the store, 935 N. Michigan Ave., at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and took several handbags on display near the front door, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The suspects fled in a white minivan, and the number or cost of the purses they took is unknown.

Employees at the store declined to comment Thursday morning.

The store and police did not disclose which purses were stolen, but some handbags in Chanel's recent collection are priced at nearly $10,000

The theft was the latest in a pattern police are noticing along Chicago's most prominent shopping strips. In the crimes, the suspects enter the stores, grab luxury purses off the shelves, and run.

The earlier crimes occurred:

•During the early afternoon June 27 in the first block of East Grand Avenue.

•During the afternoon June 30 in the 100 Block of East Oak Street.

•During the late afternoon July 20 in the 100 Block of East Oak Street.

•During the afternoon July 31 in the first block of East Grand Avenue.

The suspects Wednesday were described as two black men who are between 18 and 24 years old. One of the suspects had dreadlocks, Trainor said.

Police are investigating.
