BRONZEVILLE — Chicago Police Capt. Crystal King-Smith has been promoted to commander of the Wentworth Police District, the police announced Friday.

King-Smith will replace Terence Williams as part of a shake-up of seven neighborhood districts and other divisions of the Police Department, Supt. Eddie Johnson announced Friday.

King-Smith served as a captain at the Wentworth District before being picked to take over the district. The district covers parts of Bronzeville, Kenwood, Hyde Park and Washington Park.

Williams had lead the district since May 2013 after commanding the Rogers Park District for less than a week. He had long ties to the district and was a sergeant in the Prairie District in 2006 before it was consolidated with the Wentworth District.

The police officials were not immediately able to say where Williams was reassigned.

Also Brendan Deenihan will become commander of Area Central Detectives, which is also housed in the Wentworth District at 5101 S. Wentworth Ave.

Deenihan previously served as the commander of the Bureau of Internal Affairs.

Former Supt. Garry McCarthy put Deenihan in charge of internal affairs in 2015 to root out corruption and misconduct in the department after a judge dismissed charges against Officer Dante Servin for shooting Rekia Boyd in 2012.
