HYDE PARK — Mothers Against Senseless Killings — also known as the "Army of Moms" — will be collecting donated school supplies around the neighborhood for the next 1½ weeks.

The group of volunteers, which has been trying to reduce violence on the South Side, is looking for rulers, notebooks, pencils and other supplies for kids going back to school.

The moms will be at Kimbark Plaza at 53rd Street and Kimbark Avenue from 1-4 p.m. Friday.

The group then moves around the neighborhood to other stores for collections between 1-4 p.m., including Sunday at Office Depot at 55th Street and Lake Park Avenue, Aug. 27 at the corner of 50th Street and Drexel Boulevard and Aug. 28 at Michael’s at Hyde Park Boulevard and Lake Park Avenue.

A full list of needed supplies is available on the group’s website.

Distribution of the supplies will be announced in the coming weeks.
