BOYSTOWN — Taverna 750 is heading north.

Citing an "unexpected and unfortunate turn of events," the restaurant will close at 750 W. Cornelia Ave. on Aug. 29. It will reopen at 5420 N. Clark St. in Andersonville on Sept. 2.

On Facebook, the restaurant said Wednesday that the building's landlord planned to open a restaurant in the current space.

As a toast to its customers over the past five years, Taverna diners will receive a free Champagne toast with their meals until the Lakeview location closes.

The casual Italian eatery opened in 2011 in the former Cornelia's. Prior to its arrival, Cornelia's Bistro and Pub filled the space for decades. The restaurant went through a handful of remodels and rebrandings over the years, landing on Cornelia's Little Amsterdam before closing in 2009.

In 2011, Scarlet club owner Paul Cannella took over the 55-seat storefront and crafted a menu inspired by his grandfather's food at Grand Tap Room in the 1930s and '40s. The interior was completely redone, save for the original tin-tiled ceiling.

Taverna 750 was Cannell's first restaurant, and he told Eater in 2012 that he hoped to eventually build up a restaurant entertainment group.

"I laugh when people say time flies, but since I've been a full-time entrepreneur, these are the longest and most-full days and year of my life," he said.
