Robbers Pretending To Build Speed Bumps Are Stealing From Homes, Police Say

CHICAGO — A group of men have been burglarizing North Side homes by pretending to build speed bumps, police said.

During two recent burglaries, a man has gone to a home and told the resident he was building a speed bump in the alley behind the home, according to a Chicago Police community alert. While the victim was distracted, one or two men went into the home and stole valuables.

The burglaries occurred:

• 2 p.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of North Ridgeway Avenue

• 2:45 p.m. Sunday in the 4200 block of North Spaulding Avenue

The thieves are described as two or three white or Latino men who are 30-45 years old and 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, police said. They have been seen driving in a black Jeep or black van.
