West Englewood Shooting Kills Johnny J. Butler, 37, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 37-year-old man was killed and another man wounded during a shooting in West Englewood Thursday night, police said.

At 11:55 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired found the man in his 20s lying in a vacant lot in the 6500 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said. The man had been shot in his head and was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old man had been hit in his leg and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, police said.

The deceased man has been identified as Johnny J. Butler, of the 9800 block of South Woodlawn Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No one was in custody.
