OLD TOWN — Now's your chance to own a piece of Old Town history.

A Carl Street Studios home designed by renowned artist Edgar Miller, who is credited with founding the neighborhood now known as Old Town, recently hit the market for $1.6 million.

Built in the 1880s, the home —155 W. Burton Place, Studio No. 2 — "is the largest and most significant" of the 13 condos, which were transformed in the 1930s by Miller and developer Sol Kogen into distinct studios with stained glass windows, carved doors, sculptures, mosaics and frescoes.

The 3,500-square-foot home offers a two-story living room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large private roof deck and a high-end kitchen and breakfast room.

For extra space, the new homeowner can buy the adjacent 745-square-foot duplex, which listing agent Lisa Shaughnessy said can be used for an office or guest suite.

In April, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks moved to formally preserve 153-161 W. Burton, which used to be a quirky artist colony.

book was written about the home and other "handmade home" works of Miller, who the Tribune credited as a co-founder of Old Town, the artists' neighborhood, in his 1993 obituary.
