ANDERSONVILLE — Three months after taking the reins of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Andersonville Sustainability Community Alliance, Kyle Smith is stepping down from the posts.

Smith served as executive director of the sister organizations at 5153 N. Clark St. The chamber's executive committee has been overseeing office operations since his departure officially took effect Monday, according to a press release from the organizations.

"It's been an honor to serve the Andersonville neighborhood and help build such a vibrant, walkable, and locally minded business community. I look forward to continuing to see great things in Andersonville in the future," Smith said.

Smith, who took the helm in May after a three-month search, plans to pursue other opportunities in urban planning and development. Smith, of Edgewater, was previously the Manager for Transit Oriented Development with the Center for Neighborhood Technology.

The chamber would not comment further on the abrupt departure, but said "identifying and placing a strong successor is a clear priority for both" organizations, which work to create a vibrant environment for local businesses to thrive in.

When Smith was hired, chamber board Co-President Barbara Janusek said, “We believe that Kyle will bring a great deal of knowledge and background to the position. He will help lead the Andersonville community to the next level of excellence and innovation."

Previously, Ellen Shepard held the positions for 16 years.
