Aerial Gondolas Could Give Chicago's Tourism A Lift (VIDEO)

DOWNTOWN — A developer wants to build aerial gondolas that would zip people above the Chicago River, and now we can see the pods in (imagined) action.

Developer Laurence Geller and Lou Raizin, the founder of Broadway in Chicago, think they can give the city's tourism a lift with the so-called "Chicago Skyline" stretching from Navy Pier to Chinatown.

The idea, first unveiled in May, could add $330 million more in annual tourism dollars and help the city reach its goal of 50 million tourists a year, the duo says.

"This is no pipe dream," Geller told the City Club in May . "We know this is real, very real, and can be done."

The project — which has yet to be approved — would be designed by Marks Barfield Architects and Davis Brody Bond.

Recently, Brighton, England-based F10 Studios released video renderings offering a better idea of how the gondolas would work.

The project's status is unclear. Geller and Raizin did not return messages seeking comment.

But watch the video. It's always fun to dream.
