WICKER PARK —  A sushi burrito is a giant piece of sushi — one that you can eat with your hands instead of chopsticks — and three Wicker Park restaurants including a forthcoming spot named "Sushi Burrito" are slinging 'em.

En Hakkore 2.0, the second outpost for Bucktown's En Hakkore, began offering sushi burritos in April. The restaurant at 1467 N. Milwaukee Ave. prepares a Korean bibimbap sushi burrito along with several other varieties like spicy "fire" and ceviche.

In September, Sushi Burrito plans to open its third outpost at 1238 N. Milwaukee Ave., around the corner from the CTA Division Blue Line L stop.

Sushi Burrito owner Ganzorig Amgalanbaatar, who opened his first Sushi Burrito in 2014, claims to have brought the phenomenon Chicago. The trend has caught fire in California and Washington, D.C. too.

Sushirrito, which debuted in San Francisco in 2010, bills itself as the "original," but so does Jogasaki in Los Angeles.

Beginning Monday, Runa Japanese, 2257 W. North Ave. will begin offering sushi burritos on a late night menu for to-go and delivery only.

"We have gotten many customers calling about this sushi burrito thing," said Henry Zhang, owner of Runa Japanese at the southeast corner of Oakley and North avenues.

Zhang's late-night sushi burrito menu will be offered from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day of the week except for Tuesday.

"The inspiration [for adding sushi burritos to menu] is that this has gotten very popular in California and New York City and clearly there are two or three Japanese restaurants doing the sushi burrito now in Chicago," Zhang said. "It is part of the reason I want to do it at Runa, too."

Zhang said he will consider adding the new late-night only sushi burritos to his regular lunch and dinner menus depending on demand.
