Boy, 16, Shot in Washington Park, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was critically wounded in a Washington Park shooting Sunday night, according to police.

The boy was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people in the 5600 block of South King Drive at 9:05 p.m. Sunday when a man on foot walked up and opened fire, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He was struck in his back and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Amezaga said.

The boy is a documented gang member, according to police.

No arrests have been made.
