RAVENSWOOD — Service on Metra's UP-North line has been suspended after a pedestrian was fatally struck on the tracks near the Ravenswood station.

The accident occurred about 9:40 a.m. Friday, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Inbound and outbound trains have been halted along the line while an investigation is underway. The identity of the pedestrian was not available.

The death "is being declared a suicide," according to Larry Langford, spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

The CTA is honoring passengers' Metra tickets on the Brown Line between Kimball and Chicago, and on the Purple Line between Davis and Chicago until Metra service resumes.
