KENWOOD — A development of 20 new row homes in Kenwood is starting pre-sales, with the development expected to be completed by early 2017.

Lexington Shores, 4639 S. Lake Park Ave., got the sign-off from the city in February to develop the homes that will replace a failed development that was halted after the first floor was constructed.

The size of the row houses has grown, to 2,216 to 2,507 square feet for three- and four-bedroom units, which is up from 2,000 square feet when they were first announced in February.

The base price has also risen to $399,990 from $359,990 in February.

The units in the gated community will have attached two-car garages, rooftop decks and a balconies off of the kitchens.

The Lexington Shores row houses are expected to be completed by early 2017.

“When you’ve been building homes in Chicago for more than 40 years, you’re bound to return to certain neighborhoods like Hyde Park because it’s constantly at the top of buyers’ wish lists as a great place to live,” said Jeff Benach, co-principal of developer Lexington Homes. “We’ve been waiting a long time to find the right piece of land and the right floor plans for Lexington Shore.”

Lexington Homes also led the 1999 conversion of the former Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center in west Hyde Park into loft units and single-family homes.

Benach said the new Kenwood homes will be the same as the Lexington Square homes built in Bridgeport at 37th and Morgan streets.
