UPTOWN — Uptown's new coffee shop should open within the month, according to its owner.

Emerald City Coffee is planning a soft opening at 1224 W. Wilson Ave. by mid-August and to hold its grand opening Sept. 1, said Brian Osborne, who also owns the Emerald City at 3938 N. Sheridan Road.

Osborne, 38, signed the lease for the former space of Magnolia Cafe about seven months after it closed. In April, he said the coffee shop would "ideally" open in June, but was slowed down by various city inspections.

"We're hoping to offer a limited beer, liquor and wine selection and have an event space," he said at the time. "It's an expanded version of what we're doing" at the original location.

Emerald City's Lakeview flagship serves as an event space and coffee shop with over 20 coffee options. Its menu also includes nine non-coffee drinks and sandwiches, including chicken bacon, veggie melt and grilled cheese.

The new location will also serve as a bakery and supply both locations.
