LINCOLN PARK — Head to Augie's Booze & Schmooze this weekend for a free pig roast, live music and a raffle.

The neighborhood bar, 1721 W. Wrightwood Ave., is hosting its 20th annual Hawaiian-style party from 3 p.m.-3 a.m. Saturday.

Drink sales will benefit Misericordia, an Edgewater facility that helps people with developmental disabilities. Jury's Out and Artie Fitzgerald are scheduled to perform on the outdoor patio in the bar's signature sand volleyball court.

Typically, around 200 people attend, according to Jami Duffy, who has managed the bar since it opened in 1994.

"It's amazing how many different types of people come in," she said.

To Duffy, Augie's is a true neighborhood bar, which has contributed to its longevity.

"We've got the same guys who come in every day and enjoy a shot or two," she said. "It's not a yuppie bar. It's not pretentious. Our drinks are not expensive. We're just a bar."

Augie's is a rarity in Lincoln Park, where neighborhood bars are becoming a thing of the past, according to Duffy.

"They're going away. It's so different than what it used to be," she said, adding that she's bartended for 18 years.

The Hawaiian-style party isn't the only charitable event Augie's throws. The bar just hosted its ninth annual golf outing, which benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
