LINCOLN SQUARE — This sounds like a help wanted hoax, but it's not.

The Smithsonian has an opening for a craft beer scholar — that's right, craft beer is now historically significant — and we're pretty sure half of Chicago has conducted the necessary "field research" to apply for the job.

The three-year appointment, under the auspices of the National Museum of American History, pays $65,000 per year plus benefits.

Are you able to travel? Willing to work independently? Capable of communicating effectively? You're partially qualified.

Alas, even if you know your Deschutes from your Destihl, requirements also include an advanced degree in American business, brewing, food or a similar specialization within the field of history. A Ph.D. in keg stands does not count.

The application deadline is Aug. 10.
