OLD TOWN —  Celebrate the past and present of Chicago's favorite food at an upcoming festival.

Chicago Hot Dog Fest, now in its fourth year, is set for Aug. 5 - 7 at the corner of Clark Street and LaSalle Drive near the Chicago History Museum, an official partner in the fest.

The three-day celebration will feature a variety of hot dogs to sample from local purveyors like Fatso's Last Stand and Byron's Hot Dogs. Plus, speakers like Mark Reitman of Hot Dog University and Bob Schwartz, author of “Never Put Ketchup on a Hot Dog," will speak.

Kids will be able to dress up like a Chicago-style hot dog with their choice of condiments. There will also be live music from an array of acts including 90s cover band Run Forest Run and funky Indo-Afro-Caribbean ensemble group Funkadesi.

When the fest debuted in 2013, Chicagoans responded voraciously, leading to a shortage of hot dogs. But museum officials have been monitoring the supply ever since.

For a full list of vendors, activities and a live music lineup, visit the fest's website.

Admission, which includes audio tours, costs $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and students, and is free for children 12 years and younger.

In anticipation of last year's fest, we compiled a series of old photographs of Chicagoans eating hot dogs to prove that our love affair has been going on for more than a century.
