EDGEWATER — You've likely already met or seen the woman about to head the 48th Ward's economic development efforts.

When Ally Brisbin isn't working with local businesses, running her own at Edgewater Workbench, or talking education on Swift Elementary School's Local School Council, she might be found relaxing at Thorndale Beach or, when she can, sipping a margarita patio-side at Mas Alla del Sol.

She's a busy woman, one who likes to say "yes" to opportunity, she said.

And her latest opportunity brings her business and marketing skills back to Edgewater to work for Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) after serving as the Director of Business Services for Uptown's Chamber of Commerce.

"Ally brings a track record of dedication and commitment to our community in many roles," Osterman said in an email to residents. "She will bring her energy and expertise to our office ... I look forward to working with Ally and all of you."

In her new role, she'll be focusing on economic development and business services, as well as taking on communication responsibilities, working along with the community and business owners, she said.

"When Harry asked me to discuss joining his team, I saw that as another opportunity," Brisbin said.

"I think Alderman Osterman is the real deal ... he doesn't rest on his laurels. He is an inspiration to me."

Brisbin is no stranger to the Edgewater community.

Over the years, she has been a business owner at Edgewater Workbench and Kitchen Sink, served as the Marketing and Events Manager for the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, written for a community blog, launched workshops and more.

Her pet store at Edgewater Workbench, Shop Cat, is also well-known to those walking down Thorndale Avenue.

"One of my coworkers in Uptown always teases me about how much I talk about Edgewater," Brisbin said. "I just love it, I can't help it."

Ultimately, she said it was the people in the neighborhood who motivate and inspire her to stay active in the community — be it in her professional or personal life.

"We have really smart, diverse, fun people here who are committed to making Edgewater the best neighborhood in the city. From what I can tell, Edgewater is unique in how high-functioning it is," Brisbin said. "We all work very harmoniously together."
