ALBANY PARK — Commutes along the Brown Line just got a little bit more caffeinated and boozier with Wednesday's long delayed opening of Nighthawk Coffee Bar & Tavern across from the Kimball station.

Anticipation has been building since Nighthawk was first announced in November 2013. Owners Howard Windmiller and Brendan Phillips originally anticipated a 2014 opening but encountered a number of setbacks along the way, including the need for far more substantial renovations to the storefront at 4744 N. Kimball Ave.

The wait ended with a stealth Facebook announcement, posted at 2 a.m. Wednesday: "Nighthawk Coffee Bar and Tavern is OPEN TODAY!"

Hours are 6 a.m to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday.

Coffee options include La Colombe cold brew on tap, which early-bird customers have already described as "insane" on social media.

Nighthawk will transition to beer and cocktail service in the evening hours.
