WEST GARFIELD PARK — A 17-year-old died Monday night after being shot multiple times in West Garfield Park, police said.

At 9:25 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 4400 block of West West End Avenue, where they found the teen with multiple gunshot wounds in the torso, according to a preliminary police incident report.

The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the teen as Darrell Peden, of the 4600 block of West West End Avenue.

Michael, a man who lives on the block of the shooting and declined to give his last name, said he was sitting at home when he heard "five or six" shots outside.

The block had been mostly "quiet," he said, unlike other blocks in the area.

"[Shootings] are pretty normal around here," he added.

No one is in custody, police said.
