NORTH CENTER — There are no entrance exams or prerequisites required to sign up for Cider 101 at The Northman cider pub.

Just bring an interest in this often misunderstood beverage and come prepared to taste some samples.

The class is the first in a series being planned by The Northman. This inaugural session will focus on the history of cider, where it comes from, how it's made and an explanation of the various styles of cider (hint: they're not all cloyingly sweet).

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, 4337 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets are $25, available for purchase online. The cost includes a flight of four ciders and light snacks.
